At the urging of my friend from down under who is a talented blogger, I am going to blog a bit of my recent cruise to the Mexican Riviera. I do not think my vacation is all that interesting to anyone for the most part. Afterall, I told most of my friends and co-workers that I would be praying for North Dakota type weather for them while I was in the sunny south. As it turned out, God answered my prayers. They had zero degree temps and even an ice storm. Ain't God good?

After two and a half days at sea we arrived at Acapulco. Now let me just say right now Acapulco is over-rated. It is very dirty for the most part and the people drive like maniacs. It was a highlight of our trip however. Two other couples we crusied with initially wanted to go on a excursion that was going to cost us $150.00 to eat a meal and watch the cliff divers. Now do not get me wrong, I am not a cheap person, but I am already paying $2000.00 to take this cruise, why would I want to pay that much more to see someone jump off a rock?

We (Sassy and I) decided we would go to a seculed beach recommended to us by our cruise coordinator and friend. It was call Sunset Beach and they had a great on-the-beach resturant called Tres Maria's. She had heard about this from her neighbor who has traveled to Acapulco many times. I do not know what the other two couples we cruised with did, but this did not sound interesting to them. Too bad for them.

We had been on the beach for about 2 1/2 hours just enjoying the scenery, the adirondak chairs, the beverages, and the thatched roof cabanna when all of a sudden a 45-47 year old male of mexican decent came up to me while I was sitting in my adirondak chair (I actually had not gotten out of it the whole time we had been there) and asked me if he could have his picture taken with me. I said sure and he kneeled down next to my chair.

That is when it hit me.... he thought he had found Santa on vacation! I talked him into sitting on my lap for the picture and for the next two hours there was a line of people wanting to have their picture taken with Papa Noel. What a hoot. I had little kids, girls in bikinis, and even a couple of gay guys all wanting to have their picture taken while on Santa's lap. What really made this so much fun was that I did nothing to initiate this activity.

Who says being a fat ol man with a long white beard can't be fun? Heck even the toothless old mexican grandmas were longing for a picture and a hug from ol Papa Noel. I loved providing an opportunity of fun and joy for the people on that beach on that day, especially those beautiful European girls in the bikinis.

Feliz Navidad!
