I was taught well, now I always have to ask: "Trust your government, ask a Vet?" I am not a poet or writer of any type. The following came from the heart one day after another battle with the fine govt officials that work at the VA.
To show my honor and respect to The Veteran, I capitalized the first letter on certain words only.
"AMERICA TAKES BETTER CARE OF ILLEGAL ALIENS THAN HER VETERANS"
THE AMERICAN VET
I wear black for the Oppressed and Homeless Vet,
the pride is still within Him, He hasn't given up yet.
One who was once a very Proud Warrior who bravely went when called
because of what was taught to believe in, They wanted to give Their all.
but now when He needs His countries help, no one answers His call.
everyone is so afraid of Him by the way He looks and smells,
His drunken stupor or drug induced high
they don't understand or know Him as they pass Him by.
they don't know of all the promises made to Him by the country He once so proudly served,
that now when He needs their help He finds they were nothing but lies.
they don't know of the battles that He still fights waging in His memories dreams and mind.
takes the drugs and alcohol to help Him to survive and forget on leaving His Brothers behind. but He will always be with Them, in memories, dreams and mind.
He desperately needs His countries help because of firefights and the horrors of war,
His country won’t answer Him, His country doesn't need Him anymore
now His Brothers Names are written and placed high upon a wall,
They watch Him come, to search for Them, searching for Them all.
and when Their country needed Them They didn't fail the call
and now when He needs His country His country doesn't give a damn.
but for all that He believes in He will still make His stand.
for it's just another day knowing that He and His Brothers had given Their best,
but only when GOD says "Welcome Home My Sons" will They get Their eternal rest.
