Last June,I brought my used sporty in to a local bike shop (Ridge Runner Cycles) to get it up and running. It had never run since we had gotten it,but thats another story. The bike shop had done some work on the ol mans bike and done a good job and was fair. well anyways,we gave the guy some money to buy parts and stuff.went in to the shop a couple of times to check on the bike, but he still had a lot of bikes ahead of ours.So ok..then it got to be August and now when we go by,the shop is not even open when we stop by but lights still on and bikes inside. End of Sept, finally catch the shop open and hear the woes of the shop owner, including a crushed hand when a motor fell on it while working. So it will be just a few more weeks and he will get my bike running. Being the trusting soul I am..ok..we'll see you in a few weeks...Well..then the holidays start getting busy and we don't call the shop to check on bike, getting cold anyways....Don't think much about it. Ok..Holidays over,ol man goes by shop and NO lights on,still a few bikes inside.Phone's been disconnected. Call the local cops, who tell me they heard the shop was closed and that its a civil matter and now I got to get a lawyer to find this piece of shit scumbag to get my bike back. I am so furious right now I can't even think straight. Its not like he didn't have our number to call us. I just can't believe someone would do this to another person.

Same ole story.  I've seen bike shops that from the outside perspective looked like they were doing very well.  They had plenty of business and more on the way and for no apparent reason, just closed.  Makes you want to open up your own shop.  Now I KNOW there's plenty of bike owners out there that need a mechanic to do anything major on their bike.  So why is it that these few and far between bike shops can't seem to make ends meet or for some reason can't stay in business??? It just don't make any sense to me.  Then there's the crooks like you're having to deal with.  Sorry for the hassle you are having to go through.
