VIEWING 1 - 10 OUT OF 11 TOTAL
Funeral escort for CPL John Ayers
DATE: 21 Jul 2008, 1:22 pm / MOOD: Tired
On Sunday, July 20, 2008 Eric and I joined the Legion Riders, Patriot Guard and many other riders in a funeral escort for CPL Jonathan Ayers and his family. Cpl Jonathan R. Ayers 24, was 1 of 9 heroes who fell in the heat of battle while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Cpl Ayers who was promoted to Cpl posthumously died of wounds suffered when their outpost was attacked by small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades from enemy forces in Wanat, Afghanistan, on July 13. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503d Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza,Italy. We rode to Zoar United Methodist Church where we were greeted by approximately 250 other riders. Despite the heat and humidity, everyone was focused on the mission of supporting the family of this local hero. We escorted Cpl Ayers and his family from the church to his final resting place. It was a slow speed, solemn ride. There were many people along the route who also turned out to show their support for the Ayers family. At the cemetery, we dismounted and formed a flag line around the family and Cpl Ayers. It was a short but touching ceremony. As always, the sound of Taps and watching the family say their final farewell moved many of us deeply. There were 4 heat casualties at the cemetery, two PGR and two guests. Latest reports are they are all fine. Our continued prayers go out to the Ayers family and to the families of the rest of this country’s fallen heroes! Check out the pictures we took. http://community.webshots.com/album/564177648DmblwJ?vhost=community&action=refreshPhotos&albumID=564177648&security=DmblwJ

DATE: 19 Jul 2008, 7:12 pm / MOOD: Happy
Eric and I went on a nice ride to Tallulah Gorge on our anniversary (today, 23 years). We rode 120 miles. We had a great time. We chatted with a lot of nice people. I also was talked into walking down and up 610 steps.... not as easy as it sounds..... I was BEAT when I was done. Then we went to dinner to celebrate out anniversary, which was terriffic. Then I got my tongue peirced....OUCH!! The person who pireced it wasn't wearing the right size gloves, so the bar fell out of the hole, so they had to pierce it twice...DOUBLE OUCH!!! Looks cool though. Talk to you later. Ride safe and often.

Memorial Ride
DATE: 30 Mar 2008, 5:06 pm / MOOD: Satisfied
Sunday, Eric and I went on The American Legion Post 251 & The City of Duluth’s 2nd annual Memorial Ride to help build a living memorial for the Veterans, Police and Firefighters. Bubbles came on the ride too, which was great to see her. The ride was Police escorted, which was nice. The ride was about 70 miles. The weather started out nice when we started out on the ride. So we (All Wolf and I) decided not to wear my jacket. We rode for a bit… then it started to rain. It started out a light rain, then poured….So, I checked off another thing on my list of “to do’s for the new rider” I rode in the rain…. And MAN did it rain. We were able to stop so we could put on our rain gear which was nice since the rain was stinging my skin (the one time I didn’t ride with my leather jacket). I had a BLAST!! When we got back to the post, we had lunch and waited to see if our raffle tickets we bought won anything. We won a Turkey Call and a Deck of Dale Earnheart cards. All Wolf bid on some saddle bags, and won them. Now we will both have saddle bags on our bikes. At the end of the day I ended up buying a Leather Jacket that hadn’t been bid on …. It’s a NICE jacket. The liner zips out so I can wear it when it’s warm out. Now All Wolf can have his spare jacket back. Of course, we also had Our Daughter bring our Grandson up so he could show him off. It also helped that we could put the jacket and saddle bags in the car and ride home in our rain suits… which we needed because it rained pretty darn hard on the way home. We took pictures of the day and I put them on my webshots page. Check out the pictures. Escort for SSG Tabb
DATE: 17 Feb 2008, 8:53 am / MOOD: Satisfied
Yesterday, all_wolf and I had the honor of riding with our American Legion Riders Post 251 and the Patriot Guard, in the escort of fallen hero SSG Tabb.all_wolf has posted a blog about the ride that has gone in great depth of the day (written beautifully, I might add), so I will just let you know how touched I was to see how many people cared so much for SSG Tabb and his family and wanted to show him the love and respect he and his family so deserved. As all_wolf mentioned, the roads were cleared for the procession. I thought that was wonderful. It still seemed strange to be able to run through red lights and I was surprised just about every time the Police when they would race by me to get to the front so they could stop traffic. I have never ridden on such an empty highway as I did that day. As we were riding, I touched me was all the cars on the opposite side of the roads and highway that were stopped, watching the procession. al_wolf mentioned what we heard on our chatterboxes, which was cool to hear. I could hear they were out of breath from their maneuvers, but I also heard the excitement in their voices when they talked about all of the bikes out on the road. As all_wold stated, SSG Tabb was a dog handler and his dog was there for the service. There were other Soldiers and their Dogs at the service showing their respect, which touched me. I am glad the Dog was able to be adopted by SSG Tabb’s family. We escorted SSG Tabb, his family and friends to the new National Cemetery near Canton GA. It is a beautiful place. The service was not by the gravesite, but under a pavilion. Along with the flag line greeting at the funeral home, there was a flag line at the cemetery. During the service at the pavilion, the family was circled by the PGR and Legion Riders with a flag line. It was nice that the Preacher let the family and friends know about the 21 gun salute, so they wouldn’t be surprised. There was not a dry eye in the place as rifle salute was fired and taps played. Quoting all_wolf, “ May SSG Tabb rest in peace, may his family have strength and take comfort in the knowledge he is honored and remembered, and may us as Americans always remember our heroes, for a country who falls to remember their fallen heroes is doomed to be forgotten!”I’ve added pictures I took with my camera phone. Some of them are from all_wolf’s phone.Ride safe, Ride often.Toppcat

Tonight I had my first night ride. All_Wolf had to go into work to lock up the place, so we rode the bikes. I was a little nervous riding in the dark, but had fun. I plan on going on another night ride tomorrow night too. Thanks Pookie for helping me gain my confidence...YOU ROCK!!

Another Ride
DATE: 20 Oct 2007, 6:25 pm / MOOD: Tired
Went on another ride with the hubby all_wolf. Rode all around town. Had my first (probably not my last) experience with a driver not paying attention for bikes (she almost pulled out in front of us). Still had a blast. I've gone on a long ride, gone on the freeway. Now I need to conquer riding alone and riding at night.

Well, tonight we (All_Wolf) and I went on another ride. We went on the freeway (my first time). That was so much fun. I loved going 70! (which aparently, is about the fastest my bike will go). I had a blast and am looking forward to even more rides.
